YOUR COMMUNITY SOLAR
Claverdon’s Neighbourhood Plan made clear the need for Claverdon to support renewable energy and mitigate the impact of climate change by becoming a carbon neutral parish, with solar energy identified as the likely route. A solar farm in Claverdon could help fund Claverdon’s transition from oil and LPG to renewable energy. At the Parish Council meeting on 24th September, councillors unanimously passed resolutions to begin a feasibility study, to include what benefits there would be for the community.
The study evaluated the feasibility of developing a 9.7MW community solar farm, examining factors such as site selection, regulatory compliance, solar potential, environmental considerations, financial modelling, and project risks. The advisory team findings confirm the project’s viability and as a promising endeavour in renewable community energy for Claverdon.
The full feasibility study can be viewed via the parish council website https://claverdon-pc.gov.uk/community-solar/
Claverdon Community Solar is designed to serve as a catalyst for a broader community vision, promoting sustainability and energy independence in Claverdon. This project is not merely a financial or environmental endeavour but represents a strategic step toward a resilient and eco-conscious future for a rural parish of 1309 parishioners and 545 dwellings. Claverdon Parish Council are now pursuing a Community Right to Build Order (CRtBO). More information on Community Right To Build Orders can be found on the Parish Council website.
There is lots to do still, but if all goes well, we will then be able to proceed to a community referendum, allowing residents to have their say but only proceed if the majority of residents support it. We shall continue to post updates via both the Parish News and on the parish council website as we progress.
