A path to a greener Claverdon
Issued by Claverdon Parish Council and CHARGE CIC
Update No. 4 May 2025
Why Claverdon Community Solar?
The latest government legislation mandates that no new oil or gas boilers shall be fitted after 2035 and 80% of existing oil and gas boilers should be phased out by this date.
Although this legislation is still some time away, it presents a significant challenge and financial burden for the community buildings, including the school, Church Centre, and Benefice Housing.
Local and central government financial support is diminishing year after year, necessitating the development of self-sufficiency solutions while ensuring the efficient operation and sustainability of these buildings.
Additionally, the majority of residents face the challenge of retrofitting their homes to comply with the legislation over time. A tailored approach is required for each property type, as there isn’t a single solution, and the resources needed for retrofitting are considerable.
Why should you care?
The parish buildings are the heart of our community – we need to ensure they are fit for purpose for future parishioners as well as you and I. Furthermore, the value of your property will be adversely affected by not being energy efficient and meeting the government legislation.
The Parish Council and CHARGE CIC are committed to assisting in preparing and supporting this transition. If successful, the Community Solar Farm should provide considerable financial benefits for Claverdon over the coming decades, as well as doing our part for energy security and lowering emissions. The scheme would deliver £100,000 annually to support the retrofitting of community buildings, such as the Church Centre, School etc. and provide resources and support to residents.
The project is aligned with our Neighbourhood Plan and we expect to be able to engage and consult with you in the coming weeks & months about this scheme.
