A path to a greener Claverdon
Issued by Claverdon Parish Council and CHARGE CIC
Update No. 3 April 2025
Powering Claverdon’s Journey to a Greener Village
As previously reported, Claverdon has an opportunity to take control of local development through a Community Right to Build Order (CRtBO). This means that we, as residents, can propose and approve small-scale development projects. This is the route we are taking for Claverdon Community Solar, which could provide renewable energy to the grid and long-term benefits for our community. This has been agreed at £100,000 per year. (The feasibility study also mentioned discounted electricity, but this is not now looking practical.) This money would be channelled through our Community Interest Company, CHARGE to support our transition to a greener Claverdon. The Solar project would be on low grade land in a well-hidden section of Park Farm, on the other side of the railway lines.
As we write, work is ongoing to finalise our contracts with Solstar, who are setting up the company to create & operate solar farm, funding the process and producing pre-application documents for Stratford Council (via their consultants, Enzygo). They will then be meeting in April to agree the CRtBO content and timeline. We expect this will include reports on how it will impact views and the landscape, the ecological impact and what measures will be in place to enhance and protect wildlife, any traffic implications during construction and the distribution of community benefits and how revenue will be reinvested fairly across the community.
If this all goes well, we could start to engage residents in greater detail, gather feedback and address concerns from May, in advance of a formal 6-week community consultation starting September. We will keep you appraised of progress and provide greater detail as soon as we are able.
