Our village phone box (located in the centre of the village on the A4189 Henley Road) was adopted by the parish council a few years ago and is now looking very sad, so needs our attention. We are therefore looking to our parish to decide what we do.
Unfortunately, it can longer stay where it is currently located as it is too dangerous, so it will need either removing (and making the area good) or alternatively removing (and making he area good), refurbishing, relocating and repurposing. Although there might be some possible funding available, there are significant costs to both these options. We looked to resident’s for their opinion on this and results of a poll, which was carried out in December 2024, can be found below.
We had a good response to the poll regarding what we do with our village phone box and we would like to thank all those who took the time to share their thoughts.
It was clear from the responses that as the future of the phone box had been discussed several times before over past years and residents were very keen for the council to ‘do something’. It is therefore important this matter is now moved forward and action taken.
You will see from the table below that 82% of responders were in favour of restoring, relocating and repurposing it. Of those who made a suggestion on location, 83% wished for it to be relocated to outside the community shop and 74% suggesting it to be repurposed as a community library.
At our next public meeting, to be held on 20th January, we shall therefore be making the proposal that, as per the wishes of the residents of Claverdon, the telephone box is removed for restoration and then further investigations made as to the possibility of it being relocated and repurposed.
Further updates will be posted on the website as we progress with this project.
