About Claverdon Parish Council

Claverdon Parish Council is the first of four tiers of local government in England. Arguably it’s the most important tier because it’s not political and it strives to understand clearly what’s important to its parishioners and what keeps them awake at night!

Its primary purpose is to enhance the quality of life for its 1300 or so parishioners living it its 545 residences, through democratic governance, community representation, and improving local services. Despite typical perceptions a parish council like Claverdon has considerable power and self-determination.

It manages public amenities and assets, traffic calming, security and it can even buy and run a community pub. It consults on planning applications, and helps its community to plan for the future with a Neighbourhood Plan that shapes local development.

It gets its funds through a precept added to council tax, which it uses to finance community projects and services. It also works to promote community engagement, safety, and environmental initiatives, ensuring transparency and accountability in its decision-making.

All in all, Claverdon Parish Council plays a crucial role in improving local services, advocating for residents, and fostering community well-being.
